MICHAEL SUN
Cello
I’ve been playing the cello for nine years, and it’s become one of the most important parts of my life. Every week, I take lessons with my teacher for about 45 minutes, and I practice on my own for about an hour every day. It’s not always easy — there are tough pieces and long practice sessions — but the moment the bow touches the strings, everything feels worth it.
What I love most about the cello is how it speaks without words. Its sound can be joyful, warm, or heartbreakingly sad — it captures emotions that are hard to describe. Music, for me, is a way to connect with others. Whether performing in an orchestra or just playing with friends, it brings people together and calms even the most restless minds.
I chose the cello because of its wide range and expressive power. It can move from deep, resonant tones to bright, soaring melodies in a heartbeat, mirroring the way emotions shift and stories unfold. Every time I play, I feel like I’m not just performing music — I’m telling a story through sound.
